Tethers strained across the void, from the belly of the Earth reaching up into the atmosphere. Burdening  heat billowing from below, and radiant heat pulsing from above, twisting into tendrils against one another. Those trapped between battling against the writhing and forceful heat, up and down they contort, grasping and smashing for every inch.  As the day ends as it had begun, the tendrils slide and slip away from their holds, receding respectively into the earth and the atmosphere, pulling their victims down to the cooling ground, as the stars puncture the skyline and push the sun down under the horizon.

 On a tiny corner in a little village, far from the atrium of activity, rests an old wooden gate. Warped and beaten, it hangs precariously over the gravel and dirt in front of it. Just within that old gate, lies an abandoned garden, overgrown and neglected. Weeds and flowers, plants and branches, all rub against one another, as a late spring draft flows through the rusted chicken wire fence. The perfume of rotten fruit and old blossoms find their way out into the street, hopelessly reaching for a nose to assail.  An old path snakes through the entire garden, packed hard from early mornings and late evenings of watering, with hints of a boot p
